To mark the launch of this website, we decided to speak to some students about active citizenship.
Most of the interviewees said they didn’t feel young people were active enough.
What was preventing participation?
*More attention to individual concerns rather than collective
*A feeling their voices aren’t powerful enough
* Time poor
* Stigma
*Apathy
What is the ultimate goal of this platform?
To equip people, youth especially, with the tools to make their voices heard and to take action
How do we aim to do this?
Collaboration, connection, capacity building.
Paulina’s rape and murder left a lot of us feeling deep anger and sadness.
Going for a walk through independence gardens you couldn’t help but picture what happened.
And the senseless trauma it left behind.
Seeing a group of artists get together to honour Paulina’s memory brought some healing to the space.
It is active citizenship in its most beautiful expression.
Grief can be paralysing but the answer cannot be to look away.
Coming together as a community to deal with a horrific event is transformative.
